The First Sin by Cheyenne McCray
Cheyenne McCray begins her new Lexi Steele series with this novel. Ms. McCray’s works are intriguing and hot but this new series has moved her works to a new level. I loved it.
Alexis Steele is a tough woman. She was recruited for a secret government agency because of her experience as a sniper and assassin. Her tough as nails persona comes across throughout the entire book, continually surprising the reader about her depth of character and strength.
Alexis is working on an operation investigating the disappearance of women. These women are being sold as sex slaves on the black market. One of the stolen women is the sister to an ex-special forces officer Nick. Nick decided to join the secret agency to track his sister and partners up with Alexis. The two of them must infiltrate the businesses of the slavers and push themselves into situations that both feel uncomfortable while maintaining their cover. During the course of the operation, the two become more than just partners.
I do not read much romantic suspense and contemporary romance but I decided to take the plunge with this new series. Alexis Steele is the type of female character I adore: small but strong and comfortable in a position of power. Also, Alexis know what she wants and does not make excuses for her sexual feelings for her new partner.
As with any Cheyenne McCray books, this book is hot and dirty. Interestingly, the sexual situations are integral to the plot, the hot and dirty adding to Alexis’ character. The explicit scenes do not detract from the story. On the contrary, the sexual aspects of the plot are necessary for the advancement of the story.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. It reminded me of Lora Leigh’s SEAL and Elite Ops series but The First Sin adds a new twist with a strong, female character calling the shots. Also, The First Sin sets up an entirely new series following Alexis Steele. I cannot wait to learn more about this new heroine.
